This was a birthday present for our 11 year-old grand-daughter who (currently) loves elephants. So this review is based on her feedback to me. She loved the beautiful pictures, which are plentiful and the book is large size. The text portions were easy for her to read and understand. The book is pricey, though. But hey, it was for her and not me! LOL

This is a beautiful coffee-table book filled with gorgeous photos of elephants, capturing elephant behavior. The captions for the photos can be found at the back, which made it a bit challenging to match to each photograph, but it was worth the extra time spent.

BREATHTAKING! Beautiful photography, of course, but how did Ammann create such powerful pictures, each filled with feelings, expressing and engaging emotions that will live in my mind's eye forever.The same photo developed from connecting, condensing, and expanding perspectives adds even more beauty and artistic power than "being there" ever could. I have had ELEPHANT REFLECTIONS almost a week, but I cannot get through the entire book. I start and then find I cannot move past a certain picture. When I have absorbed this one, I must close the book and plan to give myself another new gift to be opened tomorrow.Dale Peterson's writing arrests one's attention almost (sorry, Dale) as strongly as Ammann's photography. Whether one knows elephant facts or is reading them for the first time, it is easy to see that Peterson loves these beauties with a passion to match my own. I hope he is wrong when he wrote "We can never fully understand them." We do not now, but this book and others coming out soon will add to our knowledge of these, the most majestic and loving inhabitants on our small planet. I believe that many of us feel as I do about these intelligent and sensitive giants.If you want a book that just decorates your space, you may find that you are enraptured more than you planned. I cannot imagine anyone could put this book down and expect it to stay theres.

This book is filled with very personal photos of different aspects of elephant lives. If you can't follow elephants, this is the next best thing to give the reader a peek into their fascinating lives. The explanatory text is also very informational.

I bought this book to draw from. I'm in awe of the challenges the photographers had to face to get some of these shots. The stories in the back are well written. Should be a must read for school kids so as to teach them empathy toward these poor beings who are being slaughtered for their tusks.....only to become an ornament for man. Shame.

Elephant reflections is such a great book in learning about the lives and feelings of these amazing giants.
