For anyone entering the world of web site design this is a great reference book. I have used it and Jennifer Niederst Robbins book Learning Web Design to learn about how to write or markup HTML and CSS . Mr. Gaskill's book takes the reader carefully through each phase of creating and publishing a web site. This book covers the basics of the web site design process but it does not deal with examination of subjects such as useability standards or progressive/adaptive web design.This is a keeper book for those teaching web design or those needing a step-by-step guide. If the reader plans on creating a web site using a theme format this book with provide some idea of what is under the design but you will not need it to create a site. However, if you decide to use Dreamweaver, you will have a better idea of what is happening and how you can change the design. I have used both the Dreamweaver course handbook and the Gaskill book to educate myself and overcome fear of HTML.
I have an online class about web development this semester and this was the required book.I LOVE IT! It doesn't read like your average text book. The chapters are short, very easy to understand, and it gives you a very thorough overview of the basics of web design. Even the writing style's got some pizazz.I definitely recommended this one if you're just getting started and/or don't know very much about web design.
This book helped me so much in my Web Development class. It is very easy to understand, and explains cascading style sheets and HTML extremely well. The examples were always pertinent to the material I was covering in class. I used this book for other advanced classes - it is a great reference for learning and review.
Not a bad manual at all and it definitely teaches the basics of HTML and CSS. The problem you get with web design is that everything moves so fast it starts to get out-dated the day you write it. I kinda felt like I was being taught HTML 101 from the early 2000's instead of the 2012. there's just a lot in here that is dated or flat out not relevant for today's high speed internet environment and even the author's boogiejack website looks like a leftover from the initial 1990's dial-up era of web design. I never make fun of others websites, but when you wrote a book about web design your site better impress. But all in all it's certainly an informative read for beginners and required reading for the Intro to Web Design class I was taking.
This is a great book. I still reference it today. I bought this about 3 years ago for a web design class. The author writes in a very easy to understand way. He breaks down different components of HTML in a way that makes it very easy to digest. The spiral binding makes it easy to lay flat and read as you type without having to keep one hand on the book or a paperweight on the book. Good book for anyone interested in HTML.
I bought this book as a text book for a college course that I was taking. Text books have a tendancy to be dry and boring, however, I found this book to be humorous. The lessons teach you step by step how to build a website. You can find inserts in the book that teach you advanced material based off of the basics that are given in the previous chapters.There are references to the authors website in the book. The website is a great companion to the book, there is a lot of knowledge on his website as well.Have fun programing!
I think the book is well written in plain funny language. although HTML is a little out of date especially the coding part, but it is necessary to learn the fundamentals.
Great book, helped me learn the basics and every book I've had on the subject after this one has been so confusing and poorly written. Great to learn how to make a web page for someon with no computer knowledge.
