My 8 year old asked for this box set for Easter. He absolutely love these books, and I absolutely love seeing him read them.
This book collection is simply wonderful! I never read Roald Dahl as a child but watched Charlie and the Chocolate factory movie . I am reading every night to my daughter and we love it so much . It is so fun , full of adventures, a little bit of dark humor , just like the books used to be before the overprotection began ( you can't say stupid anymore,what?!) Honestly all of the books are amazing, I loved Matilda and the Withes the best .
I bought these for my then eight year old daughter. Part of the appeal was that she knew some of the titles from movies but I was also worried that having seen the movies, she might not be interested in the books. I was a little caught off guard by the size of the type as we had been transitioning from books more like the Dr Seuss series ie. larger type, fewer words, and lots of color pictures.She actually didn't touch them for a couple months and then one day I noticed that she had picked up the one I had started reading to her and had almost finished it. She immediately started reading another one and at times was reading two books at once. She really enjoyed the whimsical nature of most of Roald Dahl's books.
I used to read these when I was kid. I'm 34 now and decided to buy this collector's boxed set of ones I've already read and ones I've never read before. Ah, the memories. They are just as good as I remember them and so unique. Roald Dahl is brilliant! You must read these.

I was looking for the book Matilda for my niece who's a 10 years old avid reader and came accross the collection. She loved Matilda and the other books too. I think it's a great read before jumping to collections like Harry Potter.
I haven't read through all the books yet but all the titles advertised came. Love Dahl's writing. I'm 29 and hadn't read any of his, just watched the movies, and I really enjoy them.
The 15 books are of somewhat uneven quality. Most famous ones, quite naturally, are the most appealing. These would be the Fantastic Mr. Fox, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and James and the Giant Peach. Others such as The Twits didn't seem as compelling.The most interesting to me was his own autobiography, entitled Boy.Whatever else one might say, one must acknowledge his enduring appeal.I will add that as an English teacher I taught The Fantastic Mr. Fox to sixth and seventh grade Ukrainian students of English. They like the story. I have also taught "The Wayside School" and "Sarah Plain and Tall." I think that they identified with Mr. Fox better than any of them.
