An absolute must for anyone traveling to South Africa as we did.

An excellent introduction to South Africa. I read it before and during my first visit. It was wonderful to have an understanding of what I was seeing and experiencing.

My wife and I had the pleasure of spending nearly two weeks with Ron as our local guide throughout South Africa. He was conversant on all topics of interest to visitors, held the attention of our large group, and did an excellent job of masking his biases on cultural and political matters. His book is an excellent introduction to this beautiful country with a complicated history and an unclear future. I only wish our tour operator had recommended the book before we started our trip. Though Ron had boundless energy and was an excellent narrator, reading this wonderful book in advance would have made our tour more complete. For anyone visiting South Africa, this book is a very small investment offering outstanding returns.

Even for someone like me with a long standing relationship with South Africa this is a great review. I recommend it to those both new and old to South Africa.
