Ms. DesLauriers is the first person to ski the highest summit on each continent, also known as the Seven Summits. In this revealing and compelling memoir, she shares her journey from inception to completion. The summits include Denali, Elbrus, Vinson Massif, Kosciuszko, Aconcagua, Kilimanjaro and Everest. Each presented unique challenges and skill sets, and yet she managed to finish within a two-year period. This is a wonderful read, offering insights into the mind of a woman who engages in dangerous pursuits while also detailing the risk minimization that she practices diligently. Still, the Everest portion will leave you dangling on the edge of your seat. I especially enjoyed the side-stories about her wolf dog. Well-written and fascinating, I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

Higher Love is a fantastic adventure story! It is well written, flows incredibly well, is a page turner. What Kit DesLauriers accomplished is in my view one of the great ski mountaineering accomplishments of all time. The parameters and hurdles of climbing let alone skiing the 7 summits is an incredibly difficult proposition. The skiing aspect adds to the difficulties. But what stands out in my mind is that not only is the accomplishment a major first, there were so many other notable firsts in the journey that it places Kit in position to have accomplished so many things that can't ever be repeated. The book is thus a historical document detailing not only a grand adventure but is a compilation of historical accomplishments. I have climbed and skied nearly 50 of the world's highest peaks, but I didn't have the boundaries that Kit had for this project. The way she handled this project, and the determination she put into attaining success repeated over and over to overcome the difficulties logistically and then again for the climbing and skiing is something that leaves me in awe. This is one of the best adventure books of our times.

In my next life I want to be Kit's friend. Hid the book in my lap and finished reading it at work as I could not put it down. Wept at the end with exhaustion and relief - felt like I had been up and down those mountains with her. If you are looking for a fantastic adventure story featuring a woman who is not only courageous beyond words but also someone you would like to sit down and have a glass of wine with - READ THIS! Wow. Thanks Kit for sharing your story but more for sharing the inside of your head as well...both so incredibly inspiring!

Amazing undertaking that is beautifully told. With compelling prose, DesLauriers brings new voice to an Everest ascent (and first ski descent with Jimmy Chin and Rob DesLauriers). But that is only part of the challenges she overcame in skiing the seven highest summits on each continent. The book is destined to be a classic.

I received this book as a gift from a friend. I loved everything about it. Kit tells her great story and her narrative is easy to follow and she seems downright pleasant. I ended up buying this as a gift for another friend, I am very excited to share this fun read. The book arrived in great condition and on schedule.

As a part time mountain person and high altitude trekker and one searching for that elusive way to be able live every day by ones true values I found this book speaking deeply. Not so much about climbing the mountains, although Kit's adventure on Everest was Epic, but in being alive, free, and true to ones values in the outdoors is about so much more than about just reaching the tops of mountains. It is about ones values, ones heart, ones soul, and the joy that comes from being true to yourself. In Higher Love, Kit gives you an intimate perspective of the extreme joys and intense challenges and the struggles one has to follow, or stay with, ones values. We all want to live the life we want, but have our cake to. It was refreshing to see some of the "behind the scenes" of the sacrifices, doubts, and fears and that those who accomplish these feats are really just like you and I but just have identified, and then chosen, to stay true to their self. It was also refreshing to see how they were able to make it happen financially as that it usually the one obstical thats keep most from choosing to go for it. If you are a skier, lover of the mountains and wild places, or are just searching for how to follow your true values and be true to your self.... like a wolf, you'll love this book.

Writing's not the best but interesting stories of a challenging quest.

Three love affairs in one exciting life. First with a real wolf. Second with extreme skiing. Third her supportive husband. A must read for men, women and mountaineers.
